Community Engagement Group

The Awareness-Raising working group has public outreach as its primary focus. It is an important part of the Transition Town mandate to promote awareness in the community of the key issues around the urgent need to begin the transition to a lower energy, more localized future: particularly Peak Oil, Climate Change and increasing instability in the global economic system. The Awareness-Raising working group hosts film screenings, public talks, orientation presentations and other public events to inform the community.

Transition Guelph Lending Library

What:
When: This project is ongoing
Where:

We're currently working in collaboration with 10 Carden to establish a film lending library that all members could use to borrow DVDs free of charge. The idea is that we could do much to increase awareness of the key transition issues by encouraging our members to hold film screenings for friends and neighbours in their homes, and make it into a social event. A screening could perhaps be paired with a pot-luck meal, and followed by an open discussion of the film to generate some ideas as to how our community can respond. Please have a look at the library to see what films will be available!
